The National School of Government and Public Services provides world-class learning and development for everyone across the Civil Service and for public sector leaders
What is the National School?
Established in autumn 2026, the National School of Government and Public Services offers learning built around skills that every civil servant needs and provides leadership and collaboration support across the public sector. Alongside an expanding range of online training, the Hawkhills in Yorkshire opens as our new residential campus for high-quality in-person learning, the first step in building a wider network of places to learn.
The National School offers learning built around Universal Skills such as this year’s One Big Thing ‘AI in Action’, accelerated development schemes for high-potential staff including apprenticeships and the Fast Stream, and specialist upskilling such as that delivered by the College for National Security.
It offers development programmes for public sector leaders as well as events to support collaboration across the public sector.
The National School’s offer will be informed by evidence and evaluated for real impact. You can read about the National School Evidence Centre and its work here
